Snack Time: Hummus & Pita Chips



This makes enough for 4-6 people to share. Try eating hummus with pita chips or fresh slices of cucumber.

blender or food processor
rubber spatula
small bowl


1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas, drained
¼ cup tahini
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 clove garlic, crushed
½ teaspoon cumin
2 teaspoons olive oil

1.Place all ingredients except olive oil in blender or food processor and blend or process until smooth.

2.If hummus is thicker than you like, add olive oil and blend or process again until smooth.

3.Place hummus in bowl and serve.

Pita Chips

To make pita chips, have an adult slice through the pita so it is two "whole" circles. Using clean scissors, cut each circle into wedges. Brush the wedges with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and your favorite dried herb (parsley, oregano and rosemary are great). Bake in the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-14 minutes or until toasty and golden.
