Tips for choosing strawberries

Since strawberries are so fragile, they have to be picked by hand. The United States leads the world in production of strawberries. The United States farms more strawberries to sell each year than any other country in the world.

When choosing strawberries, keep in mind that the berries should be bright red and firm with fresh looking green tops. Don’t buy strawberries that are grayish or have dried brown tops.

You can get strawberries at the store, but you can also find a place near where you live to pick strawberries by searching the web. Whether you pick strawberries yourself, get them at a farmers market, or find them at your local supermarket, here's a simple, tasty, and healthy recipe to try.

Kale-Berry Power Bowl

Makes 1 serving

Ingredients

  • Handful of kale, washed well
  • ½ cup strawberries, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons almond slivers
  • A drizzle balsamic vinegar

Instructions

Tear kale into small pieces. Toss all the ingredients together and eat. Enjoy!
